Dark Sky Park Møn og Nyord was the first Dark Sky Park in Denmark.
More Dark Sky Parks are on the way, on the islands of Mandø and Anholt, and in the village of Taarup on Funen.
A Dark Sky Park is an area of exceptional quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural or educational value, its cultural heritage and/or public enjoyment.
In 2014, a group on Møn began an effort to protect the undisturbed night darkness on the island, through a joint effort for DarkSky certification as both an International Dark Sky Community and an International Dark Sky Park.
